As part of the national implementation of the European NIS2 Directive, DENIC, the central registry for .de domains, is introducing extensive changes to the registration and verification of domain contact data. The aim of this directive is to further strengthen security and accountability on the Internet and to create clear, traceable responsibilities for domain operators.
What is changing?
Due to the new requirements, certain contact details of domain owners must be more complete, accurate, and permanently accessible. In addition to the name, address, and email address, this will also include a telephone contact option and information on the legal form for legal entities. This data will be automatically checked and validated during registration, when changes are made, and when there is a change of ownership .
In addition, DENIC's Whois query tool displays additional information transparently to ensure clear assignment and accessibility of the responsible parties.
Annual review of your contact details
In order to comply with the requirements of the NIS2 Directive on an ongoing basis, we will be required to send all our customers an email once a year asking them to confirm or update their stored contact details. This regular check serves to ensure the accuracy and completeness of your data in the domain registration process .
Please check your inbox for relevant emails and update your data if necessary—this will enable us to jointly ensure statutory compliance and avoid potential problems with domain management.
